Feature Films

I have worked on several feature films, in roles as diverse as digital character animator to special effects animator to lead technical animator to cycle animation, and even doing some processing motion-capture data for Star Wars: Episode One. I view the most important thing in each project to be animation: it can blow up very prettily or have ears that flop in perfect physical follow-thru, but if it doesn't MOVE alive, no amount of number-crunching by countless render-farms is going to breath life into that shot. Don't get me wrong: animation is a crucial part, but it cannot stand just on it's own in post-production. There are literally hundreds of extremely talented artists working on matchmoving, modeling, shader-writing, R&D, character rigging, dynamics, technical direction, storyboarding, tape back-up systems...and dozens more. All of these amazing people were needed to create these fantastic images.

Of all the films I have worked on, my favourite would have to be Flubber. It was the most challenging, the most rewarding, the most frustrating, the most fun, the greatest learning experience, the most humbling, the hardest project that I have ever experienced. If given the chance, would I do it again. Oh yes, without question...I just hope I would have the wisdom and experience to do better, and have the priviledge of being able to work with the same amazing crew.

Unfortunately, only Jumanji, Mercury Rising and Deep Impact have images from every shot that I worked on in that show. In the text of those web pages, I will try and describe which shots I did work on and what my role was on those projects.
