AD3: Alan hand stretch.
One example of creating an effects shot without any real idea of exactly
how to do it. But this was back in the day when new ground was broken with
every frame rendered.
First, there weren't any digital models of Alan's hands built, so a pair of
monkey hands, heavily modifed, were used. No one had taken measurements so the studio
faxed a photocopy of the actor's hands, palm down.
Hands were stretched using layered lattices, not the easiest way to do it...the
geometry kept on breaking so the hands were up-rezzed to a boggling amount.
Throw some particles on (by particle master
Habib Zargarpour), projection-map
the original plate for hand texture, and voila! a digital effects shot is made.
